8th Annual Buckeye BBQ:  Good times on the lake!

120 members and their families and friends attended our annual Association BBQ on Saturday, July 21.  Once again, Mother Nature graced us with lots of sunshine, the setting was pure Muskoka, the food was mouth-watering, and the entertainment outstanding.  Truly, a recipe for success.The Association thanks our very gracious and generous hosts Laurie Harada and Victor d’Souza for once again allowing us to use their home and property and for their contribution of all the burgers and sausages. Of course, the organizing committee deserves special mention, as the work for this event starts in early spring each year.  So, hats off to …

  • Our DockDrop team – Murray Durante, Tim Sjoholm and Richard Baumgartner, for ensuring everyone on the lake received an invitation;
  • The Communications Committee – Dawn MacDonald and Margarete Cameron, for ensuring that the evites were extended and newsletter articles were posted;
  • The folks who assisted Laurie in setting up the buffet and preparing some of the food items – Victor d’Souza, Pat Durante, MaryLou Sjohom, Kathy Hobin, Clare Tomkins, Ron Cameron, Murray Durante and Tim Sjoholm;
  • Our Welcome Table hosts – Tammy Douglas, Roch Beaulieu and Lisa Talbot-Beaulieu;
  • The Game organizers – Maddi and Garry Fitzpatrick, whose efforts resulted in the highest  ever “take” from this activity;
  • Our silent auction co-ordinators – Peggy and Richard Baumgartner, who again set a record with the proceeds generated; and,
  • The Stewart Lake Band who, under the leadership of Ken Hobin, provided a musical backdrop that had toes tapping and bodies swaying.
In total, the event raised just over $3000. Many of our SLA members contributed prizes for the games and items for the silent auction, and our local business community provided unprecedented support as well.  Our sincere thanks to the following businesses for the items they donated:
  • Foodland
  • The Cove
  • The Muskoka Station Store
  • Gord’s Home Hardware
  • Chef Henrie
